Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
